Laboratory Testing

Do I Need Bloodwork Before Starting Treatment?

Some treatment options can influence blood sugar, insulin sensitivity, growth-hormone signaling, thyroid function, kidney function, liver function, blood counts, or other measurable health markers. Your provider determines whether testing is required and what to order.

Final testing requirements are determined by your VidaVital medical provider during your consultation. Schedule now →
Three Testing Tiers

How to read the bloodwork badges on our platform.

Every peptide page and treatment pathway carries a color-coded badge. This is a general guide — your provider makes the final call based on your history, medications, and treatment goals.

Red Badge

Baseline bloodwork generally required.

  • Therapies that materially affect glucose, IGF-1, hormones, or bone metabolism
  • Growth-hormone-axis peptides (Sermorelin, CJC-1295/Ipamorelin, Tesamorelin, Kisspeptin)
  • Incretin-based weight-management therapies (Semaglutide, Tirzepatide)
  • Any therapy where systemic markers should be reviewed before starting
Bloodwork
Baseline Labs Required
Amber Badge

Recent bloodwork recommended.

  • Therapies where a CBC, CMP, glucose, liver, kidney, or metabolic review is commonly appropriate
  • Cellular-energy or antioxidant infusions (NAD+, Glutathione)
  • Immune-support therapies where a baseline health check is prudent
  • Situations where recent labs (within 6 months) help the provider make an informed decision

Recent Labs Recommended
Blue Badge

Laboratory testing determined by the provider.

  • Therapies where testing depends principally on history, diagnosis, medications, route, and duration of treatment
  • Repair and recovery peptides (BPC-157, TB-500, KPV, GHK-Cu)
  • Peptide blends where specific labs are not routinely needed by all patients
  • Cases where the provider will decide during your consultation whether labs are appropriate

Frequently Asked Questions

Bloodwork basics.

Do I have to get labs before every therapy?
No. Some therapies require baseline labs (red badge). Others recommend recent labs (amber badge). Some are provider-determined based on your history (blue badge). Your VidaVital medical provider makes the final call during your consultation.
Can I use lab results my primary-care doctor already ordered?
Yes — recent laboratory results (typically within 6 months) may be sufficient. Bring them to your consultation or upload them when scheduling. Your provider will review whether the panels cover what's needed.
What if I don't have any labs yet?
That's fine. If bloodwork is needed for the therapy being considered, your provider will order the appropriate panel. You can complete the lab work through your preferred laboratory (LabCorp, Quest, or a local option) and results are typically returned within a few days.
Does insurance cover the labs?
Coverage depends on your insurance plan, the labs ordered, and the medical necessity as coded. Some patients pay out-of-pocket at cash-pay rates through the ordering laboratory. Your provider can discuss options during your consultation.
How often will I need repeat labs?
Follow-up monitoring is provider-directed based on the therapy, your response, and any changes in symptoms or medications. Common intervals range from every 3 months to annually.
What if my labs come back abnormal?
Your provider will discuss any abnormal findings with you, may adjust the treatment plan, may recommend additional testing, or may refer you to your primary-care physician or a specialist as clinically appropriate.
